- 4 –5 apples Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, or Granny Smith, cored and sliced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ¼ cup brown sugar or maple syrup
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp ground nutmeg optional
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp butter cut into small pieces
- ¼ cup water or apple juice
Preheat oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
Prep apples: Place sliced apples in the baking dish and toss with lemon juice.
Season: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar (or maple syrup), cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and vanilla. Sprinkle evenly over the apples.
Add butter & liquid: Dot apples with butter and pour water or apple juice into the bottom of the dish.
Bake covered: Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes.
Finish baking: Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes, until apples are tender and lightly caramelized.
