- Main Ingredients
- 2 15-oz cans chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
- 1 –1½ tbsp olive oil
- Flavor Base
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika or smoked paprika
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Pantry Staples
- Salt to taste (added after cooking)
- Optional seasonings: cumin chili powder, curry powder, ranch seasoning
Prep
Drain and rinse chickpeas. Spread on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and pat completely dry.
Remove any loose skins that fall off.
Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
Air Frying Method
Toss dried chickpeas with olive oil until lightly coated.
Place chickpeas in the air fryer basket in a single layer (do not overcrowd).
Air fry 12–15 minutes, shaking every 4–5 minutes, until golden and crispy.
Immediately toss hot chickpeas with salt and desired seasonings.
Texture Check
Chickpeas should sound hollow and feel crunchy when shaken. They’ll crisp a bit more as they cool.
Finish
Let cool 5 minutes before eating for maximum crunch.
-
Drying chickpeas thoroughly is the most important step for crispiness.
-
Add salt after cooking to prevent moisture from softening them.
-
For extra crunch, air fry 1–2 minutes longer, checking often.
